This layout is being operated using a Digitrax Zephyr system as the command station. As the first modules that I am building are going to be simple switching modules, this system should be more than enough. (I don't have space or money to build the entire layout at this time.) I also had an opportunity to test the system with a full length Acela HST and a few other locomotives and it was able to operate the trains without a problem.
All of the mainline turnouts will be controlled by a dispatching program that I'm developing. In addition all of the signals will be operated by the same program. I am currently trying to decide what program language I will use to develop this program but the interface will be the Computer/Model Railroad Interface that was highlighted in the January to April issues of Model Railroader in 2004. More details about this program will be placed here as I begin to develop the program.
