Equipment Standards

Freight equipment run on this layout shall match all of the following requirements:

• Be equipped with Kadee or other knuckle coupler
• Be able to negotiate a #5 turnout
• Have RP-25 wheels, that are in gauge

Locomotives should meet the following requirements:

• Freight cars should be complete.
• Cars should have metal wheelsets.

Industrial Switching

All industrial switching is to be conducted in a manner not to interfere with the operations of Amtrak passenger or MARC commuter trains. In addition no cut of cars with fewer than 3 cars shall be left standing on the line without special permission from the dispatcher.

Once switching at a location is complete turnouts will be set back to the main and locked. Due to the higher speed of trains on this line a misaligned turnout could pose a severe safety hazard.
